Program Benefits for Students

Providing a safe environment for students to explore the limits of their comfort zone allows them to develop key skills to build successful and rewarding lives.

PROGRAM BENEFITS FOR STUDENTS

Students who participate in a World Challenge expedition will embark on an amazing journey of self discovery. The life skills they learn will help to prepare them for adulthood and the world beyond home.

Skills for the Real World

The pre-departure program as well as the many program benefits for students combine to work side-by-side with the aims of the curriculum and the framework of personal learning and thinking skills.

Students develop skills in the areas of:

  • Resilience
  • Global perspective
  • Confidence
  • Leadership
  • Responsibility

By planning their own itinerary and travelling overseas, volunteering in a developing community and trekking through challenging terrain, students come back with a different perspective on life as they ‘knew’ it!

A World Challenge expedition can contribute towards the following curriculum programs:

Ongoing Personal Development

Most students return from their expedition feeling much more confident and mature as a result of the way they coped with the demands of the trip. Expedition Leaders encourage students to think about how they can maintain and build on their achievements long after the expedition is completed.

Reflection-and-Reviewing

Self Reflection

Over the course of the pre-departure program and expedition students are likely to sometimes face challenging situations. World Challenge leaders present opportunities to reflect and review throughout the expedition, which are vital in order to think about these experiences in ways that enhance their value.

EMPLOYABILITY & LIFE SKILLS

team-work

Teamwork

Teamwork is the key to success on every World Challenge expedition. Having an awareness of the strengths and weaknesses of others means that students can accomplish more together. Team building activities are introduced in school meetings by the Program Facilitator.

Leadership

Leadership

Each student is encouraged to take on a leadership role during the expedition, and the pre-departure program. Becoming more comfortable with leadership will develop the students’ confidence and resourcefulness, qualities which are highly sought after by future employers.

HEALTH & WELLBEING

Physical Wellbeing

Physical fitness is the responsibility of every member of the team. It establishes a base level throughout the team in order to ensure enjoyment for all participants. Increasing personal fitness brings a sense of fulfilment that will be beneficial to students long after they return from the Expedition!

Psychological Wellbeing

Expeditions challenge students to take on responsibility in a supportive environment. Students develop life-long coping skills such as effective decision making, strategic planning and problem solving. This experience enhances student resilience, positive mental health and psychological wellbeing.
