REC First Aid
Are you an adult working with young people either as a School or Expedition Leader of an expedition? You may also be working with young people as an instructor with World Challenge UK Operations - you may be doing a combination of these tasks! Whatever your involvement it is essential that you have a valid First Aid certificate.
Given the need for First Aid qualifications, World Challenge, in conjunction with MDP Training, have arranged it so that you can get access to this training at a competitive price, and within an environment that is compatible with the World Challenge ethos.
The authorising body is Rescue Emergency Care, (REC), one of the UK's leading outdoor first aid training organisations. The qualification gained is an Emergency First Aid certificate, and is recognised by MLTB, BCU, and RYA so will keep those qualifications valid. This is essential if you want to lead an expedition!
Course Syllabus
- The fundamental workings of the body in particular, the heart, lungs and airway
- Recognising the difference between healthy, ill and injured parties
- Introducing a system to cope with all incidents as safely as possible
- Deciding how to deal with an accident or incident
- Awareness of delayed medical help and adverse environmental conditions
What the programme involves
The course has been designed to suit as many people as possible, whilst maintaining a very high standard of training. There will be 16 hours of training over the course of a weekend. This means that both days will start at 9.00am and will finish at around 5.00pm. There is no assessment to the course, but there will be plenty of practical work to do, putting you to the test all the time.
Modular
Those wishing to progress to an assessment in order to get their HSE First Aid at Work certificate can use their Emergency course to act as part one of a two part modular course. Part 2 must be taken within 13 weeks of part 1, and will involve active assessments by external assessors. Those wishing to go on to part 2 should let their trainer know as soon as possible.
