Acclimatisation on the Cambodia and Thailand expedition
Erawan National Park
The Erawan National Park is located 50km north of Kanchanburi. The park is famous for its seven tiered waterfall which can be reached by teams on a half day trek. Elephants live in the park and there is the possibility to visit a wild elephant camp. Kanchanaburi and the surrounding area are home to infamous World War Two sites including the ‘Bridge on the river Kwai’ which challenger can visit if they choose this option.
Khao Yai National Park
Khao Yai National Park contains one of the largest intact monsoon forests in mainland Asia. Also located in the park is the Hew Suwat Waterfall that was featured in the film “The Beach”. Experts consider Khao Yai as one of the worlds best National Parks. This area can also be considered for a challenging trekking phase.
Trekking Phase in Thailand
Thailand’s northern highlands are full of lush jungle, in which most teams complete their trekking phase. The Um Phang region near Mae Sot and the region north-west of Chiang Rai are popular trekking destinations. All trekking itineraries have the ability to include an elephant ride and time in hill-tribe villages. It is possible for some groups to include white water rafting in their trekking phase, although such a decision would incur an extra cost.
Project work in Cambodia
The project phase will take place in Cambodia, because of years of civil war Cambodia lacks development and a lot of infrastructure. This provides teams with the amazing opportunity to escape hordes of tourists and experience the real Cambodian culture. There is a range of community development projects, spanning from working in an orphanage to assisting in the construction of houses and digging wells in Khmer villages
Rest and relaxation
The opportunity to relax on one of Thailand’s beautiful beaches is nearly impossible to turn down! Team’s can decide whether they stay in beach huts or in hammocks along the beach from. Ko Samet and Ko Chang (close to the Cambodian border) are both islands that are easily accessible from Bangkok. A visit to Angkor Wat will be included in all itineraries.
