In many areas the ancient rainforests of Borneo have remained almost unchanged by man for many millions of years. It is believed that this area of the world may have been home to some of the earliest forms of man. Scientific discoveries from caves in Sarawak suggest that man was on the island 40,000 years ago.

Acclimatisation in Borneo

Crocker Range, Sabah
An option for acclimatisation in Borneo is Crocker Range National Park. Here teams can embark on a demanding 4-day trek through primary and secondary rainforest. This trek provides an excellent introduction in the heat and humidity of a typical jungle environment.

Bako National Park, Sarawak
Alternatively a number of day treks can be undertaken in Sarawak’s oldest National Park, Bako. As this area had been a National Park for over 50 years you can see a large variety of pristine flora and fauna. Bako is also one of the best places to see the rare proboscis monkey.

Main trekking phase

There are a range of options for jungle trekking in Borneo, through challenging terrain.

Kelabit Highlands
There is a range of testing and extremely challenging treks through the jungle of the Kelabit Highlands. It is possible for teams to pass through longhouse villages where the local people live traditionally in communal houses on stilts. There is also the prospect of river travel in this region.

Mt Kinabalu and Mt Trusmadi
As part of most itinerary’s teams choose to climb the highest mountain is South-East Asia Mt Kinabalu 4095m. Alternatively a more challenging trek “off the beaten track” up Sabah’s second highest mountain Mt Trusmadi is an option.

Project phase in Borneo
The project phase of an expedition to Borneo is usually based in a small village, where challengers live and interact with the local community. Teams become familiar with the community and are exposed to the lifestyle and culture of the village, a great cultural experience. In some circumstances there may the opportunity to do manual labour within the village.

Rest and relaxation in Borneo
There are unlimited options for Rest and Relaxation in Borneo. The beautiful coastline is the perfect spot for snorkeling or relaxing on the beach, the astounding Niah Caves in Sarawak are waiting to be explored or there is the opportunity to visit the Orangutan Sanctuary and get up close with these incredible animals.

Expedition quoteEvery day presented a new challenge, enabling personal team growth. Tolerance, understanding, empathy, determination, failure, success, excitement were only some of the words that described the experience.Expedition quote

Expedition quoteSara has not stopped talking about her expedition to Borneo since she returned yesterday she really had a wonderful time. Will you also thank your people who accompanied them who obviously make a significant contribution to the enjoyment and safety of the expedition. All Sara is talking about now is having a gap year to do something similar again and she was such a shy retiring wallflower before she left. It is difficult as she wants to study medicine which is a 7 year course. Again thank you very much, I would recommend your expeditions to anyone.Expedition quote
Peter Griffiths, Parent, Borneo

Expedition quoteThe expedition can only be summed up by the word 'rollercoaster'; there are up, downs and loops. It goes so quickly and by the end you are screaming, 'let's go again!’ Expedition quote
