Expedition Preparation Conference

By Nick Everard, Operations Director

What is an Expedition Preparation Conference?
The Expedition Preparation Conference is a one day event for all School and Expedition Leaders travelling on expedition. Through a series of key lectures and interactive workshops attendees receive training on: the expedition destination; World Challenge incident management; operational scenarios as well as training on medical issues and the World Challenge medical kit. For the sixth year, we are continuing with the one-day Expedition Preparation Conference format. Although it amounts to an intensive day, feedback indicates that it is an enjoyable one, and of course it means that Expedition Leaders and School Leaders don't need to give up as much of their personal time to World Challenge.

Launching the Expedition Preparation Conferences
Our aim is that you should go away confident that you have the information you need to perform your role in the Expedition Leadership team for your particular destination. As well as the essential safety and procedural updates, we will also be covering group management, expedition budgeting and the World Challenge ethos for expedition delivery.

Is attendance compulsory?

A World Challenge Expedition Preparation Conference (EPC) forms a key part of our safety and back up provision to ensure that all leaders on expedition are fully briefed. Experience shows that this helps to prevent incidents in-country and ensures you are briefed on how to react should you encounter an incident of any kind on expedition. We take the safety of you and your teams very seriously and as such attendance at EPC is mandatory so that we can be certain we have imparted essential safety information to you. Please note this applies even if you have attended in previous years since content evolves.
