Back-up and support for Expedition Leaders

World Challenge is constantly working to develop and maintain comprehensive safety and support for our Leaders and Teams abroad.

You’re not alone when you’re leading a World Challenge expedition. An experienced and dedicated group of support coordinators is always available to assist you and your team on expedition including:

On-Call Support:
  • 24-hour, on-call Operations Center to coordinate logistical, medical, and diplomatic support.
  • A ‘disaster recovery plan’ to ensure that computer, phone, or power problems in the Operations Center do not affect the service provided to teams overseas. This includes an independent generator should there be a power outage.
  • Ops Center staff includes a team of Incident Response Managers - highly trained and experienced individuals sourced externally with relevant experience gained from emergency services, armed forces and/or expedition leadership.
  • 24-hour access to medical advice from experienced experts in expedition medicine. This service provides real-time advice and support for all teams at all times.
  • All teams are equipped with state of the art satellite communication technology should emergency assistance be needed at any time. In most cases, this will include a satellite phone as well as a satellite positioning beacon linked to the United Kingdom Mission Control Center for the Royal Air Force.
On-the-Ground Support:
  • All destinations have a resident In-Country Agent on hand to help the team with in-country logistics.
  • Full-time World Challenge staff members are also stationed in regional hubs to provide additional support and service to teams. Hubs are located in areas with the highest volume of teams.
  • Rapid Response Teams ready to travel overseas in the event of a serious incident.
  • International medical assistance through a private contract provider means that teams have access to a network of emergency medical resources (including screened blood and aviation support).
Support in Advance:
  • World Challenge provides all Leaders with detailed information and training on destinations and itineraries.
  • Custom-designed, industry-leading insurance policy to ensure money is never an issue in an emergency and that all staff and participants are supported with the best medical coverage while aboard.
  • Since 1988, World Challenge has been fully compliant with various best-practice standards in the field of student travel and was recently awarded the prestigious” Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge” for overseas expeditions by the British government.
