Borneo expedition sample itineraries
Some possible Borneo expedition objectives are given below, please note these may alter between now and your expedition. The Expedition Planning Manager for Borneo will agree a suitable expedition itinerary for you, to best match the abilities and aspirations of your team.
BORNEO ITINERARY
Acclimatisation
Spend your first day in the city to find your feet before heading out to a national park. Explore the trail networks and get used to the heat and carrying your rucksack before embarking on your main trek.
Trekking
There are a wide variety of areas you can choose to complete your jungle trek in. Venture into the Kelabit Highlands of Sarawak or into the lush green Crocker Range in Sabah. On all of the jungle treks you will be travelling through some of the planet's oldest rainforest passing through local villages, crossing streams and rivers, all whilst learning jungle skills.
Project
Teams can participate in a number of valuable projects. These include working at a children's home teaching English, sharing stories, learning about local customs and organising sports days. Previous teams seeking more physical projects have built a prayer house for a local village and even helped pipe water into another village.
R&R
Borneo has so much to offer! Shop for souvenirs at the numerous buzzing nightmarkets, visit an orangutan rehabilitation centre, go white water rafting, experience the Sarawak Cultural Village, explore the Rainforest Discovery Centre in Sepilok or simply relax on an island beach off the coast of Kota Kinabalu.
BORNEO & PENINSULAR MALAYSIA ITINERARY
Acclimatisation
Spend your first day finding your feet in the city before easing your way into the expedition by completing some gentle trekking through the jungle or at some low altitude hill stations. Explore the networks of trails and get used to the heat and carrying your rucksack before embarking on the challenging trekking phase.
Trekking
Experience the thrill of trekking through some of the world's oldest jungle environments. Treks will typically last between 4 – 7 days and will provide you with an amazing opportunity to spend time exploring both primary and secondary jungle. You will learn how to set up jungle camps as well as receive some interesting lessons in jungle survival from your guides.
Project
Spend your project phase participating in some really worthwhile community or conservation work. Previous teams have worked at local children's homes, helped out at special needs schools, participated in tree planting schemes and even volunteered at sanctuaries running turtle conservation schemes.
R&R
Sample the delicious local food at one of the many nightmarkets, shop for souvenirs in the nearby shopping malls and souvenir batik shops. Take the time to catch some rays of sunshine on the beach or maybe even challenge yourselves to go white water rafting.
