Maya Route expedition sample itinerary
This expedition offers altitude trekking as well as jungle trekking and is therefore ideal for those with a strong sense of adventure and an interest in history and culture. The Expedition Planning Manager for the Maya Route will design an expedition itinerary for you to best match the abilities and aspirations of your team.
Acclimatisation
If teams fly into Belize then why not acclimatise in the world's only jaguar reserve in Cockscomb Basin. If you fly into Mexico, a Cactus Reserves or community village trek are options for acclimatisation.
Trekking
In Belize, teams can head into the deep rainforest of the Indian Creek or to Mountain Pine Ridge for a combination of alpine and jungle experience. In Mexico, teams may choose to attempt the high altitudes of a volcanic peak or head down into the cloudforest of the Triunfo Biosphere Reserve, which receives only a few hundred visitors annually, making it a wild and exciting place to explore.
Project
Project sites on the Maya Route have been set in both rural and town locations with work ranging from setting up libraries and renovating schools to supporting community health programmes.
R&R
The Palenque Ruins in Southern Mexico and crumbling Tulum in the Yucatan Peninsula are impressive sites of ancient Mayan architecture and history. The Caribbean coast stretching the full length of Belize offers an array of white sandy beaches – Caye Caulker is a short boat taxi from Belize City and is popular with its laid back, hammock swinging vibe and snorkeling opportunities.
