Expedition at a glance...

Location: Russian Siberia.
Duration: 21 to 28 days.
Ideal for: An adventurous expedition for teams looking for a physical challenge in a unique environment.
How tough 1-5 (5 being difficult): 4-5 (depends on trek).
Typical accommodation: Hostels and tents
Terrain: Mountain and altitude.
When can I travel there?: May-Sep.
Climate: There really are only two main seasons in Russian Siberia, summer and winter offering fairly significant extremes in weather. Winters are bitterly cold, whilst the summer (May-Sep) offers highs of up to 30°C during the very best weather and a completely frost-free period of around 120 days. The summer is almost the wettest time of the year, although precipitation levels are fairly low and rarely spoiling the actual day.
Culture shock 1-3 (3 being very different from home): 2.

Russian Siberia expedition reviews

Others should take part in an expedition because it truly is a once in a lifetime experience - I know everyone says that, but you really can't appreciate it until your out here doing it. The fact that I've raised the money on my own merit makes it even more satisfying now that I've completed my expedition. I enjoyed every minute and I want others to have the same experience that I've had.

World Challenge has provided our students with a fantastic series of opportunities. The chance to experience another culture whilst seeing a new country in a very real context and to meet the people in their immediate environment is a rare and special thing to have done. I was so impressed with the ways in which the students rose to the challenges before them and the expedition gave them the opportunity to shine and grow in confidence. They would all say that they would not have expected that they could have dealt with all of the challenges they faced but in the end they always did so with great aplomb. The students have returned to school or gone onto university with much greater confidence in themselves and with strong leadership skills and the ability to work as part of a team. They now know their strengths but they also know how to seek help when they need it. The expedition leader provided great support and reassurance whenever it was needed but he would allow the team to make its own decisions (and mistakes!) within the parameters of safety. It was always a great comfort to know that the very best safety precautions were in place and that if anything had gone wrong, World Challenge were prepared for any eventuality. I would be the first to recommend an expedition with World Challenge.

Nick Pietrek, School Leader, Aldenham School

The best thing about the expedition was being with the group 24/7, the most challenging thing about expedition was being with the group 24/7.
