Russian-Siberia expedition sample itinerary
Some possible expedition objectives are given below, please note these may alter between now and your expedition. The Expedition Program Manager for Russia will agree a suitable expedition itinerary for you, to best match the abilities and aspirations of your team.
Acclimatisation
There can be a 2 day horse trek to Mt Baida (2070m). The route is very picturesque and offers a beautiful view over several mountain lakes and high mountain ridges. The landscape in this area is different from the scenery on the way up to Mt Belukha. The team will find absolutely no one here and will get views towards the main trekking region.
Trekking
Trekking deep into the mountains and forests will take between 5-8 hours a day, covering 4-12km. You could start the trek by raft down the Katun River where the trekking is wild and remote. The team could cross the area of Lake Ak-Kem, resting in the heart of the Altai Mountains. Here they can find one of the most beautiful spots for trekking in the world. The mystical tranquillity and the local beauty gives rise to the numerous legends of the Altai. The Altai boasts more than 6,000 lakes and thousands of rivers, many of which the team will pass. The team will also have a chance to observe the many varieties of deer which populate Altai's spacious valleys. When the team reach the bottom of Mt Belukha - at the beautiful Lake Ak-Kem (altitude 2000m) - they will have the option of climbing the Ak-Kem glacier up to the plateau "Tomskie Nochevski" (3400m). This is the highest point on Belukha, accessible for "beginners" in climbing.
Project
Teams carry out project work in local villages in the Altai region. Usually in the form of maintenance work in schools, painting murals, fixing the buildings and other useful tasks with plenty of opportunity for interaction with local villagers and children.
R&R
Sightseeing in Moscow. The team may decide to go to the world-known and UNESCO listed Red Square and Kremlin, visit beautiful Kremlin cathedrals or just walk or take a boat trip along the Moscow River. The team could visit Park Kolomenskoye - the summer residence of the Tsars since the 16th century. In the evening the team can enjoy an amazing performance at one of the Moscow circuses.
