Kyrgyzstan expedition overview

Central Asia is a region famous for its history - the caravans of the ancient Silk Route, fearsome warriors on horseback like Genghiz Khan, and communist rule under the Russians. Kyrgyzstan is a fascinating Central Asian country, 94% of which is made up of the mountains of the Tien Shan. It is classic Central Asian steppe country, characterised mainly by miles of empty rolling grassland, vast alpine lakes, and the Tien Shan and Kyrgyz mountain ranges.

The main cities of Kyrgyzstan have a definite Russian influence. It is otherwise sparsely populated and remains traditionally rural, with many still living in yurts which are round, tent-like constructions.

This is the ideal destination for a team that is fit, motivated and prepared to do some amazing trekking in unspoilt mountain regions and explore a very un-travelled part of the world. It should be pointed out, however, that trekking in this region can be quite arduous at times. The weather during the summer is hot in the valleys but cooler as you get into the mountains.
