Uganda & Western Kenya expedition sample itinerary
Some possible expedition objectives are given below, please note these may alter between now and your expedition. The Expedition Program Manager for Uganda and Western Kenya will agree a suitable expedition itinerary for you, to best match the abilities and aspirations of your team.
Acclimatisation
Teams will be able to complete 1 or 2 short treks during their expedition. You could visit some of the many lakes in South West Uganda & West Kenya. Here you will be able to complete a series of day walks through savannah and acacia woodland, whilst observing unique and important wetland habitats in the area. Alternatively you can complete the 2 day Buwata community trail, based in the foothills of the Ruwenzori Mountain range.
Trekking
The summit of Mt Elgon at 4321m is Uganda's second highest mountain. The forested terrain on the slopes and open moorland provide some stunning views as you ascend. The culmination of this is the bare boulder-strewn multi-peaked crater, including the highest point, Wagagai Peak. The mountain offers an excellent challenge for those with limited mountaineering expertise.
Project
Last year two teams visited our sustainable project at Kyambogho School, where they helped parents and teachers in the construction of teachers' accommodation. We will continue to add classrooms and facilities to Kyambogho School and others over the coming years.
R&R
Rest and relaxation in Uganda & Western Kenya is spread throughout the expedition. Teams can visit game parksw where there are opportunities for game walks. You could go white water rafting at the source of the River Nile or alternatively the expedition could finish off on the beaches of Lake Victoria or on one of the islands in the lake.
