Tanzania expedition overview
Tanzania is rich in cultural diversity, has outstanding attractions in terms of wildlife, and also offers tropical coastline and islands, Africa's highest mountain, and vast expanses of wilderness. All these features provide for a challenging and exciting expedition destination.
Fittingly, we offer a range of different programs in Tanzania. Our expedition to Mt Kilimanjaro provides some big challenges, lots of variety including reaching the snow-capped peak of Africa's highest mountain, plains teeming with wildlife, stunning beaches, and huge rewards. Mt Meru - Kilimanjaro's little sister - offers a challenging trek through dense cloudforests and volcanic craters with staggering views, whilst our expedition to South Tanzania offers an insight into a side of Tanzania that many people never see. Amidst the lush green forest and beautiful mountains of the south there are many different communities and distinct cultures.
Expedition highlights
- Spend some time watching local artists at work on their colourful Tingatinga paintings.
- Discover some of the folklores, ceremonies and dances from one of the many tribes of Tanzania.
- Enjoy the delights of Ruaha National Park, Tanzania's best kept secret!
- Take a wander through the narrow cobbled streets of Stone Town before embarking on a spice tour.
- Chill out on a picture-perfect beach, on the coast or on Zanzibar.
- Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater to come face-to-face with more wildlife than you would have ever expected.
Things to know
- Head to Mwenge Cravers' Market for some great last minute souvenirs.
- The word Tanzania is derived from the two nations of Tanganyika and Zanzibar which before 1964 were separate. Tanganyika in Kiswahili, the local dialect (Swahili) is translated to mean "sail in the wilderness" and Zanzibar is derived from the Arabic words "Zayn Z'al Barr" which mean "fair is this land"…
- At 264km2, the Ngogongoro Crater is the largest complete crater in the world.
