Madagascar expedition sample itinerary

Some possible expedition objectives are given below, please note these may alter between now and your expedition. The Expedition Program Manager for Madagascar will agree a suitable expedition itinerary for you to best match the abilities and aspirations of your team.

Acclimatisation
Teams have the chance to complete a couple of acclimatisation treks, from the forested areas such as the Andasibe-Mantadia National Park, through to a short exploration of hot, dry Isalo National Park. You can also trek to Lakes Tritriva and Andraikiba offering a great chance to experience the local culture in villages on the way.

Trekking
Teams could explore the stunning Andringitra National Park in the eastern side of southern Madagascar. The park has spectacular views of huge granite peaks, the highest of which, Pic Imarivolanitra, at 2658m, is the second highest in the country. There are also trekking options in central southern Madagascar, in Isalo National Park. Isalo is described as 'savagely beautiful' and 'otherworldly'. Plateaus, canyons, golden plains, pinnacles and waterfalls characterise this impressive landscape. The Highlands around Fianarantsoa offer the chance to get truly off the beaten track, trekking from village to village through rice paddies, fields and rainforests.

Project
Previous teams trekked to their project in the central highlands of Madagascar. Here they worked alongside a local charity in helping to renovate the village health centre. They also spent time organising football matches and games with the local children.

R&R
Teams will be able to spend their rest and relaxation time enjoying Madagascar's spectacular coastline. Relaxing on the beaches, eating seafood and shopping in local markets before returning to Antananarivo.
