Madagascar expedition overview

Madagascar lies in the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Africa. It is an utterly unique and truly spectacular destination, with diverse geographical features from rugged mountains to rolling highlands, arid deserts and canyons to wide sweeping white-sand beaches. Over 80% of its flora and fauna is found nowhere else on earth, making it a biologist's paradise.

Largely untouched by tourists, Madagascar does not have the same infrastructure as other developing countries. This makes it all the more challenging and exciting as an expedition destination. Whether you are travelling by foot, boat, or taxi-brousse, every journey will be an adventure!

Expedition highlights

  • Wander around Lake Anosy and explore Antananarivo's hectic markets
  • Go lemur spotting on a night trek in Ranomafana National Park
  • Experience travel the 'local' way on the jungle train from Manakara to Fianarantsoa
  • Relax in the Piscine Naturelle after some hard trekking in Isalo National Park
  • Explore the spectacular 'tsingy' in the Reserve Speciale De L'Ankarana

Things to know

  • Barely anyone speaks English so you are well advised to practice your French before you go!
  • Madagascar is a country like no other, its isolation means there is a wealth of biodiversity including many species found nowhere else on earth.
