Kenya expedition sample itinerary
Acclimatise in the Great Rift Valley exploring the National Parks, diverse wildlife and lakes in the area. Enjoy high altitude trekking and the achievement of summiting Mt Kenya. Take the overnight train to relax by the beautiful Indian Ocean coastline.
Acclimatisation
Many of the lake areas along the Rift Valley offer wonderful possibilities for trekking and provide the opportunity to view Africa's renowned animal and bird life close at hand. Options might include exploring Hell's Gate National Parks or climbing Mount Longonot (2776m).
Trekking
Mount Kenya, which lies directly on the equator, is the highest mountain in Kenya and the second highest mountain in Africa after Kilimanjaro. It is a starkly beautiful mountain with its magnificent cliffs and glaciers, tarns and alpine meadows. It also boasts a huge variety of fauna and flora; exotic, equatorial and high-altitude vegetation, sunbirds, hyrax and soaring eagles. Climbing up to Point Lenana, the trekking summit and third highest peak of Mt Kenya at 4985m, is a demanding trek which should not be underestimated, taking teams a minimum of 5 days to complete.
Project
Much of the project work in Kenya focuses around improving school facilities in rural areas. Teams work alongside local charities to renovate classrooms or construct teachers accommodation.
R&R
Kenya's glistening coast is the perfect location for some rest and relaxation. At Malindi you will find white sandy beaches and reportedly the best pizza and ice cream in Africa! In Mombasa you will uncover beautiful examples of East African history and culture with thriving markets and lively coffee shops. Both will leave cameras full and luggage crammed full of souvenirs!
