Expedition build-up
The Pre-expedition Program
This phase of the World Challenge program is both practical and developmental.
It encourages students to take ownership of their expedition by researching the destination, fundraising towards the cost, and preparing themselves for the mental and physical challenges that lie ahead. This process means they are ready to make the most out of every day overseas.
What does the Pre-expedition Program consist of?
Motivation - World Challenge staff will run at least four meetings at the school throughout the program, during which the students will learn about their destination and plan the details of their expedition.
Fundraising - Students will work through a fundraising e-book which offers tips and advice, assists in setting realistic goals, and helps them save the money they earn! Our Support Team will offer fundraising advice and solutions throughout the program to ensure that students can maximise their potential and reduce their reliance on the 'Bank of Mum and Dad'. For more information, please visit our ‘Fundraising’ page.
Training Expedition – Students and staff will head out for an overnight expedition which will involve cooking and camping, practising river crossings, and role-playing many scenarios that the team may encounter when they travel overseas.
Resources - Students, parents and teachers all have access to the 'My World Challenge' website. This website is specific to their trip and full of useful information. As the departure date gets nearer itineraries, kit lists and flight details will be uploaded. Each school is also provided with a copy of the Fundraising Directory to help teams plan fundraising activities.
On-going Communication – Students and parents can call our Support Team if they have any queries. School staff are assigned a School Support Coordinator who will assist with Department of Education applications and any other questions over the course of the program.
