The expedition program

Our expeditions are like no others because they are student led. Challengers take on all the day-to-day responsibilities and manage the budget for the duration of the expedition.

By planning their own itinerary and travelling to the other side of the world, spending time volunteering in a developing community and trekking through challenging terrain, World Challenge believe that students come back with a different perspective on life as they 'knew' it.

Our expeditions involve a 6-24 month build-up phase culminating in a 3-4 week overseas expedition.

The Build-up

Launch
Our expedition facilitators visit regularly to help establish and engage the team and Challengers are also given access to a personal expedition web portal ‘My World Challenge’.

Expedition planning
The team is encouraged to help plan their itinerary and research their destination.

Fundraising
A step by step programme teaches financial awareness and budget management skills. Students are encouraged to take part in and create their own fundraising events. Click here for more details.

Expedition skills
A two-day training expedition and a skills training session ensure students are ready for the real thing where they can fine tune their new found skills.

The Expedition

Acclimatisation
A few days to adapt to culture shock caused by altitude, food, terrain, climate, culture and smells! A group of individuals becomes a team as they work together, rotate leadership roles and run daily review sessions to ensure they learn from all their experiences. Click here for more details.

Physical challenge
Whether trekking in jungle, desert or mountainous terrain, the team spirit, skills learnt, sights seen and sense of achievement will be second to none. Leaders step back and let the students make the decisions. Click here for more details.

Community Project
For many the most rewarding phase where students interact with the local community and give something beneficial back, putting into perspective our privileged lives. Click here for more details.

Rest & relaxation
The final few days are spent relaxing, time to take everything in, whether visiting the Taj Mahal, white water rafting or just chilling out on an empty beach. Click here for more details.
